VALERIA ROMERO SÁNCHEZ

Soy artista visual multidisciplinaria, nací en Costa Rica. Mi camino en el arte ha sido un viaje de exploración y transformación constante. Me formé como arquitecta y desde el inicio de los estudios en la universidad, mi curiosidad me llevó a diversificar mis intereses. Comencé mi vida laboral como fotógrafa y videógrafa, lo que me llevó a fundar mi propio estudio "Manduca Audiovisual", el cual co-dirigí durante 10 años.
A la mitad de mi carrera en arquitectura, sentí el llamado de las artes plásticas y decidí embarcarme también en esa formación, la cual sigo cursando hasta el día de hoy. Con el tiempo, mi necesidad de crear con las manos me llevó a la ilustración y el muralismo. Fue durante la pandemia que empecé a pintar murales y ofrecer servicios de ilustración de manera profesional, y poco a poco, esa pasión creció hasta convertirse en mi camino principal.
Hoy me dedico a todos estos medios de expresión y sigo profundizando en mi formación artística. Mi historia es la de una artista latinoamericana que vive experimentando y jugando con diferentes técnicas, con tal de seguir la intuición creativa, siempre en búsqueda de nuevas maneras de expresarme, colaborar con las personas y transformar espacios.

At the School of Architecture, I acquired one of the most valuable skills I've ever learned: how to turn my ideas into reality. Furthermore, the University of Costa Rica gave me the opportunity to participate in volunteer social work projects, connecting me with diverse realities in my country. These experiences not only enriched my perspective but also helped me grow profoundly as a person.

Manduca Audiovisual
This audiovisual studio was a self-taught venture I built from the ground up, alongside an architect partner. Over time, we built a team of up to nine independent professionals, including graphic designers, animators, editors, and producers, collaborating on multiple audiovisual projects simultaneously. Our initial focus was on documenting cultural events, and over the years, it evolved into content creation and social media management for institutions and businesses.

The School of Arts has become my creative refuge, a space where I've had the opportunity to experiment with a variety of materials and explore new forms of expression. Today, it remains the place where I delve deeper into technique and the construction of my artistic discourse.

Visual Artist
To date, I have created around ten murals of my own design and collaborated on many more with colleagues. Large-scale painting is a passion that allows me to merge everything I've learned in architecture, photography, and the arts. My goal is to bring large-scale Latin American art to the world, transforming spaces and connecting diverse cultures through muralism.
